How does it work?

The steps in the image below summarized how it works

Nearpod has two parts. One is the free iPad app.  This is where you will be running your presentations and where your students will access your presentations while you are running them.  The other part is the content tool.  You need to go to Neapod’s website to create, upload, modify, and manage your presentations so that you can run them through the app.

Using Nearpod App

To get the app and sign up a Nearpod account, you need to:

  • Go to App Store

    • Type in Nearpod in the search area

    • Tab on INSTALL to install the Free app

    • Tab on OPEN once the installation has completed

  • Tab on Login or sign up with Nearpod in the Teacher section

    • Tab on SIGN UP to create a new Nearpod account

    • Tab on SUBMIT once you complete the form

Using Content Tool

To access the content tool,

  • Go to Nearpod’s website: www.nearpod.com

  • Click on Log in using the user name and password you created above

  • Click on Create to create a presentation

  • Click on the + sign to start a new Nearpod presentation (NPP)

  • Start either from scratch or upload a PDF, ZIP or Image file from your computer or Dropbox account. (Nearpod supports jpg, png images and PDF format.  To use an existing PowerPoint or Keynote document, you need to convert it to PDF file.  Nearpod supports all standard PDF formats and assumes one page = one slide. Slides are always displayed in landscape orientation.

  • Give your presentation a unique name and then click on the + sign to add a new slide

  • Select a feature from the list below to add it to your presentation. You can add Quizzes, Polls, Videos, Q&As, and Drawing activities. If you upgrade your account to Gold or School Edition, you can enjoy the advanced features like Slideshow and Browse the internet.

  • After you have added the above interactive (slides), you can re-arrange the order of them by dragging and dropping each slide to where you would like it to appear. However the first and last slides must be static, non-interactive slides.

  • Click on Done when you are finished. This will put you back to the “My Library” page.

  • Select the presentation, then click on the Publish button to publish it

  • Once the publishing process is finished, you will see a white check mark indicating that your presentation is ready to be used

    • Make the change on the slide and click on the Save button once you are done

How can you use Nearpod in the classroom?

Using Nearpod, you can presentation a rich content that address the communication, comparison, and cultures standards in ACFTL standards.  For example, you can incorporate PowerPoint presentations and videos into your Nearpod presentation to introduce some cultural aspects of the target language so your students can gain knowledge and understanding of the cultures.  You can present conversational topics to engage students in conversations; you can then create poll, multiple choice, true/false and open questions to elicit immediate feedback from students to assess their understanding of the target language and cultural aspects. In addition, you can also show your students the results of assessments “blindly” or in the “open.” Finally, you can even require your students to use Nearpod to create a presentation for a given topic in the target language.  Nearpod combines presentation, collaboration, and real-time assessment tools into one integrated solution!
